Dealing with Addiction

No mom, I am not going to rehab.

I am talking about Erin’s new found addition to Mario Galaxy. We have had the Wii for about six months now but really hadn’t played it that it much. That all changed for two reasons. One is the kids visit, of course. The other is that we purchased Mario Galaxy. Erin has been playing almost every free moment since. It is quite a riot to watch as she yells things like “Come on Mario!” at the TV. I think the kids think she may have lost it.

In other Wii news, we purchased Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Our friends Tom and Dale had given it good reviews and we were looking for something with four player at the same time functionality. Some of the events are pretty fun but much of it comes down to shaking wimote and nunchuk as fast as possible. It gets tiring at times but is a good addition to Wii sports. I am unsure anything will supplant bowling as the game of choice. Especially now that Erin has attained ‘Pro’ status.

It doesn’t pay to be number 39 and 40 in line!

This morning at approximately 7:15am, we got a tip from Tom and Dale that the Best Buy in our area would be receiving at least 18 Wii’s. We quickly got dressed and headed out the door. For those of you who know me, I can’t survive without food in my belly especially if I’m expected to stand in line for 2 hours in the freezing cold. So, before heading to Southlands, we drove through the drive-thru at McDonald’s so that we could satisfy our hunger and grab some coffee.

By the time we pulled into the parking lot at Southlands Mall, there were already 50+ people in line. Not knowing how many Wiis they had available, we plugged Best Buy into the GPS and headed into Aurora.

Upon arriving there, it was apparent that others in the Denver metro-area were aware of the fact that each Best Buy location would have at least 18 game consoles on hand. After chatting with the folks in front of us, I headed to front of the line to see what I could figure out. We had been in touch with Tom and Dale on and off, so we knew that their location had 60 Wii’s on hand and they were numbers 15 and 16 in line. So they were guaranteed two systems, but for us we had to wait until almost 9:45 to find out that our location had 38 to distribute and that we were numbers 39 and 40 in line!

Low and behold it must have been our lucky day as Tom and Dale were able to get FOUR vouchers (they snuck back in at the end of the line!), so we drove up to Westminster and they were nice enough to share their good fortune with us. Even Brandon got a one at the location on Colorado.

Thankfully we are done Christmas shopping for Mike’s kids, but we still have other family left to shop for. The good news is that no one else asked for a Wii.
