Mike’s birthday trip to the Colorado Railroad Museum

On Wednesday, Mike and I headed up to Golden to check out the Colorado Railroad Museum.  On our way, we stopped in to have lunch at El Tapatio to have a margarita and enjoy some Mexican food for lunch.

It was a beautiful day in Denver and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.  I even got a little sunburn on my arms.

After finishing up lunch, we headed over to the museum.  Since we were visiting during the week, there weren’t too many people there, which was nice.  Here are some pictures from our excursion.

Mike outside the entrance…eager to go in.

Engineer Mike – enjoying the view from the engine.

One of the many cabooses on the grounds.

A view looking out the back of the caboose.

One of the more modern trains, this one was built in the 50’s and retired in the late 90’s.

For those of you have been to our house, this engine is similar to the one that Mike is building in the basement.  It’s a Shay…he’ll have to fill in the rest of the details.

We must have spent at least two hours walking around the grounds checking out the trains.  They have a great restoration facility here and in the future, I could see Mike volunteering his time to help out.  Wouldn’t he look cute in overalls?

It was a fantastic day and they really had a nice collection of unique railroad equipment at the museum! I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the museum and the entire afternoon.
