Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park

Mike headed back to Denver around 10:30 as his kids were set to arrive from Sacramento around 1pm while Sara and I set out Grand Lake.  She hadn’t been up there in almost 20 years, so we parked the truck and walked up and down the main street checking out the local stores.

We enjoyed a carmel apple from one of the sweets shops, but didn’t buy anything else besides a water.  For some reason, we forgot all about lunch.

Next we jumped back in the truck and headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park to check out the scenery.  As we were driving through, we saw a handful of cars stopped along side of the road so we slowed down to join them.  While there was only one Elk hanging out, we still snapped this picture.

We continued driving through the park for a while, but stopped at an observation point to snap a few more pictures.

What a backdrop!

After leaving the park we head back to downtown Winter Park to check out the local Art Fair.  Due to a rain storm that came through earlier in the day, most of the artists had back up and left for the day.

We then headed back to the condo to check out the Crankworx Colorado mountain biking event that was going on.  We happened to catch the end of the finals.  It’s amazes me that these guys launch themselves into the air spinning around at all angles.  Although I must say that the highlight of the event was snapping this picture of a small child drinking from what we hope was his Dad’s empty Coors Light can.

After a little more shopping, a downpour and a nice dinner.  We headed back to the condo to chill out and ultimately get some zzz’s.

All in all, it was a wonderful day!
