Patio at Night

One of the first upgrades we did to our landscaping was to add low voltage lights.  We decided to go with actual lights versus the solar option for the added effect and usefulness.  We’ll save the planet later by adding some solar lights to the farther reaches of the yard.

Erin picked out some nice classy looking lights and of course I then proceeded to do the hard part by by rooting around buring cable and installing lights in the 90 degree heat.

Nicely highlighting our container garden special from the nursery this weekend.

Nice overall view of the patio in the dark.  We’ll have to wait to daylight to show the actual details of the lights.  Hopefully no planes will miss DIA and end up in our backyard.

We’re close to being finished!

We’re 99% done.

Just a little bit more work needs to be done on the pathway and we’ll be enjoying the rest of the Summer in our newly landscaped backyard.

The backyard progress

Here are some pics of our new patio and walkway.  We’re still a few days away from the rest of the landscaping being installed, but we’re close…real close!

Our Patio - Day One

Mike and I left work a little early today as we wanted to see how things were going with our patio.  On Friday, we found out that they would be here Monday morning to start the project.

Here’s a sneak peak of a few of the photos…

Mike estimates that they have at least two more days of work left on the patio and the stairs, so watch for updated pictures over the next few days.

The landscaping won’t be done until the following week…I can hardly wait!

We have grass!

We were worried that we’d have to wait until September to get grass, but fortunately it was installed today!

They’ve also installed the sprinklers and the tubing for the drip system. They will be back in approximately 2 weeks to finish the job. Stay tuned as we’ll be posting pics once the patio has been installed, the trees are in place, the flowers/bushes are planted and the rocks are in place.

Here’s a couple more views so that you can see the unfinished part of the yard:

Grass anyone?

Don’t be confused by the title…the reason why we’re wondering asking about grass is that we’re not sure if we’ll have any before September.  This is due to the fact that our water district does not allow new sod to be installed after May 15th or before September 1st.  Doh!

I called our landscaper in a panic today to see if we can move our installation date up.  Keep your fingers crossed as I don’t want to get stuck with a dirt backyard until fall arrives!

It’s time for art!

New sectional

We’ve moved the section once since it was delivered and while the house is out of sorts due to the chaos of getting new furniture and installing the first of the two cabinets that Mike built, it’s starting to feel homey.

I just learned that there is a new West Elm here in Denver, so between that and Scandinavian, I should be able to find something.

Here’s a sneak peek at the cabinet’s that are still under construction…

Bye bye dirt backyard

Mike and I have met with numerous landscapers and we’ve finally decided on a plan that we both like. While we’ve modified a few things, here’s a sneak peek:

They won’t be able to get started for another three weeks or so, but we’ll keep you updated with pictures as they make progress and ultimately finish.

Cat Scratch Fever

Kali has cat scratch fever

While out shopping today, I bought Kali and Karmel a surprise…a new three tiered scratcher!

Now, for those of you who visited our house in Michigan (or my parents while the kitties were living there from July - Nov of last year) this new one pales in comparison to the one Mike built.  Unfortunately due to it’s size and weight the homemade version didn’t make the trip out to CO with us and has since found a new home at my cousin Derek’s house.

Kali has already started to scratch on it, so hopefully Karmel follows suit.  Although based on the fact that she already swatted him off of the second, he might be hard press to be king of the mountain with her around.
